CD-ROM
Compact disks can provide storage for around 650
Mbytes of computer data. This is roughly equivalent to 250,000 pages of A4
text. It is, therefore, hardly surprising that the compact disk has now become
firmly established as a storage medium for a variety of different types of
information, including text, drawings, sound and video (i.e. multimedia). The
latest PCs offer CD-ROM drives that can be used to store data on recordable CDs
(CD-R) or rewritable CDs (CD-RW). High-end PCs now also have DVD (Digital Versatile Disk).
