Derelict land
Derelict land is an unfortunate effect
of some engineering activities. The term derelict land may be taken to mean
land so badly damaged that it cannot be used for other purposes without further
treatment. This includes disused or abandoned land requiring restoration works
to bring it into use or to improve its appearance. Land may be made derelict by
mining and quarrying operations, the dumping of waste or by disused factories
from by-gone engineering activities.
