Noise and light pollution

Noise and light pollution

Where they have an adverse effect on the environment, noise and light produced by engineering activities can also be considered to be pollutants. Noise pollution may consist of low frequency vibration as well as the more obvious noise generated by engines and machinery. Light pollution may be produced when lights are left on all night or when flood lighting is used to illuminate engineering activities that are performed at night. Adequate lighting is, however, an essential requirement for Health and Safety and so it is sometimes necessary to balance the need to reduce light pollution with that of ensuring that engineering activities are carried out safely.
